This exchange was interesting to me for the way it presupposed that Picard’s childhood trauma hadn’t been unforgivably bungled last season. Lends credence to the theory that the two were written at the same time, and therefore this season doesn’t actually know what happened last season, if the writers of this dialogue assumed(as any reasonable person would) that the bit of S2 that was directly influenced by Patrick Stewart’s own childhood was handled responsibly and didn’t side with the abuser.
