Fashion Analysis

Costume design is an art. Palettes, lines, and references are used to inform and reveal characterization, relationships, and help tell the story.

I will complete an analysis of one character’s one specific costume. Pricing starts at $5.00 for a single costume.

Examples:
Padmé Fashion Project: Meadow Picnic Gown

An analysis of the golden gown Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) wears during the meadow picnic scene in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. Includes discussion of art and how Star Wars references Camelot.

Jadzia Fashion Project: San Francisco 2024

An analysis of the outfit Jadzia Dax (Terry Farrel) wears when she travels back in time to San Francisco of 2024 in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fourth season episode “Past Tense”

I will complete an analysis of a specific character’s costuming, including all appearances in the selected fandom. Pricing based on number of distinct costumes.

Examples:

Amanda Fashion Project

Amanda Grayson appears in eleven episodes across four series as well as three films across two timelines. Across all her appearances Amanda is portrayed as highly fashionable and she wears at least twenty different looks.

This project is broken into five parts: the Original Series Era, the Film Era, the Modern Eraan addendum with notes, research, and overarching analysis, and an analysis of her latest appearance in SNW’s “Charades”.

The Harry (Mudd) Fashion Project

Harcourt Fenton Mudd appears in a total of six episodes across four separate Star Trek series: Star TrekStar Trek: The Animated Series, Star Trek: Discovery, and Star Trek: Short Treks.

Pricing is based on how many distinct looks there are to analyze: $25 for up to 10, $50 for up to 25, and $100 for up to 50. If you are not certain where a character’s appearances would fit, please ask and I will do a quick analysis. For reference, Kes and Nyota fall in the middle tier while Deanna and Jadzia fall in the top tier. I am open to characters with more than 50 distinct looks (both Jean-Luc and Padmé are close if not already over), please contact me to discuss!

Note that while fashion is always subjective, all commissioned fashion projects will be presented with analysis of fabrics, colors, lines, references, trends, fashion history, etc. and not include the discussion of personal preferences my earliest projects include (unless you request it!).

All commissioned Fashion Projects will be posted online, if $100 seems steep, find a friend or group to share the cost!
